(meteorobs) Were attempts made to "Null" out strong stations?

Curious as to whether any attempts were made to null out strong 
local/distant stations  in order to detect meteors by the upsetting of a 
null balance(Yagi, Loop, Other) which would sense RF changes coming from a 
new direction, or any investigations into methods of comparing signal phase 
to the phase of a meteor caused reflection.

Kinda' musing around......
